SEO Basics
SEO professionals throw a myriad of technical and industry jargon around that can often confuse clients and often intentionally so. Keeping clients mystified and in the dark leaves room for wiggle room when leads slow, rankings drop and the explanations begin. DCG prefers an informed client and will take the time to explain the process and set expectations. As an SEO professional we often forget that our clients may not understand the process.
Think of the internet as a huge library and a search engine as the librarian. If you want to find information you might ask (query) the librarian (Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.) where to find the book (website) containing the information you need. The librarian (Google, BIng, Yahoo etc.) looks up (queries the database) on their index cards for the books (websites) that are most likely to match your request (search engine results pages/SERP). The librarian (search engine) will present you books (websites) whose index cards provide a description that most resembles the information you are seeking….and in the order that the librarian thinks will provide the most relevant answers to your questions. However the librarian (Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.) can only find the information if the book (website) is in the library (internet) and has an index card (Indexed) that describes the book and where to find it.
Search Engine Optimization helps to ensure your book (website) is on the shelf in the library (internet) and you have provided an accurate, detailed description of the contents of your book to be placed on the index cards (indexed in the search engines database) for the librarian (Google, BIng, Yahoo etc.) to use.
